# What it is

OpenGit Composer is a developer productivity extension for VS Code that analyzes staged Git changes and organizes them into logically separated, atomic, and semantic commit batches using LLMs.

# Why it exists

Developers frequently stage dozens of unrelated file changes simultaneously, leading to messy 'WIP' commits, polluted git histories, and tedious manual staging.

# How it works

The extension parses staged Git diffs into AST-level change units, clusters them into coherent commit groups through a multi-provider LLM router (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Groq, Ollama), applies privacy filters that strip environment variables and keys before context leaves the editor, and renders an interactive preview of proposed atomic commits.

# Decisions worth explaining

  1. 01

AST-aware diff segmentation over line-based hunk chunking

Line-level Git hunks routinely split logically-related changes across commits; AST diffs keep semantic units — a function and its call sites — in the same commit.

  2. 02

Multi-provider routing with local Ollama fallback

Proprietary diffs should not be forced through a cloud API; local-model routing makes the tool usable offline and inside NDAs.

# Details

  • Automatic semantic diff analysis and logical hunk grouping
  • Multi-provider LLM support (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Groq, Ollama)
  • Zero data leakage privacy filters removing sensitive environment variables and keys
  • Inline interactive commit preview and diff inspection
